Although Eastbourne's history is longer, particularly in its Old Town, the town was mostly developed in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. One of the main landowners was (and is) the Duke of Devonshire. The names of many roads and other places are related to that aristocratic family.

Shown here are Pevensey Road and the interior of Eastbourne Station, built by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway.
