Eastbourne is a resort town located in East Sussex, 45 minutes from Brighton by train and 90 minutes from London by train. It is one of the sunniest places in England but can also be pretty windy.
Shown here is a statue of Spencer Compton Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire (1833-1908), of the aristocratic family that owns large areas of land in Eastbourne. Other pictures show the pier, a feature of many resorts in Britain, and the new art gallery due to open in Spring 2009 next to the Congress Theatre.
