Linda Ohama - Making a difference: One Step, One Letter, One Person at a Time.

Echoing the theme of the JALT National Conference in Hamamatsu, Making a Difference: One Step, One Letter, One Person at a Time touched on various facets of Linda's involvement in bringing relief to victims of the 3/11 earthquake/tsunami disaster in Tohoku. Linda explained how after setting out with small-scale volunteer help, grassroots connections grew and grew.  This was most of all shown by a project to make squares which grew into large blankets that have been exhibited on both sides of the Pacific.  They have messages and designs like these:

About Linda Ohama

Linda Ohama has worked as an exhibiting visual artist, educator, and independent filmmaker. She is a third generation Canadian of Japanese ancestry (sansei) and active member of her cultural and arts communities, locally, nationally and internationally.  Previously a teacher in both public and private schools in Quebec and Ontario, she subsequently moved to the West Coast and turned her attention to her visual art career, producing film and producing/directing several award-winning documentaries.  Linda's films and paintings have been exhibited and shown across Canada, USA, Europe and Japan.  She currently sits as a board member with Chibi Taiko Society, Vancouver and the Canadian Independent Film and Video Fund in Ottawa.  See more about Linda Ohama and her various projects here.
