English Games and Short Activities

Mary Hughes (Shizuoka University of Art & Culture)

Teachers spend a lot of time planning and facilitating lessons. However, sometimes classes don't go exactly as planned, so they should always have a stock of ideas at hand in case lessons finish sooner than expected or need a quick change. The variety of fun activities in this workshop will show teachers new ways to energize their classes as well as release tension and ease anxiety. These no-prep and low-prep activities can easily be adapted to suit different classrooms and levels.

Mary received her MA in TESOL from Seattle Pacific University, USA. She now teaches English at Shizuoka University of Art & Culture, where she is currently co-designing the EFL curriculum. She has conducted various workshops on communicative games and short activities both in Japan and abroad. Aside from language games, her special interests include learning strategies and developing autonomous learners through CALL.

Meeting Location: Aichi University Bldg 5 - room 520
