January 2012's meeting was :
Insights into Reading Fluency in the EFL Classroom
Speakers: Adam Murray and Robert H.
Tafener
Following
Paul Nation’s research on extensive reading and speed reading for the
development of reading fluency and accuracy,
this
presentation demonstrated its application in the EFL classroom
through an exploratory study focusing on first year
university
students
in Japan.
This
presentation gave an update on current research in the field of L2
reading fluency, provided an opportunity to practice
speed-reading,
and
allowed for reflection on the application of and possible research
into speed-reading in the classroom.
Participants
were
encouraged to come away from this presentation equipped to implement
speed-reading with their own secondary or tertiary
level EFL
students.
The meeting took place on Sunday
22nd January from 1.30 to 4.00
in room 543 (building Five at Aichi
University's Toyohashi Campus).
