DECEMBER 2014 MEETING
December's
meeting was on Sunday 14th December
It was followed in the evening by our annual year of end
'Bonenkai'.
Before the break: Takashi Miura on
'The Challenges of Innovation in High School English Classes'.

Summary: Last year, the government's new Course of Study was
fully enacted. Its major emphasis is that high school English
classes should be conducted basically in English, and that
communication activities should be placed in the center of such
instruction. How is this policy being adopted in actual senior
high school English classes nationwide? What problems are the
teachers facing, and what kind of help do they need to meet this
change in their teaching practices? Based on his own observation
and research data, the speaker answered these questions, and
suggested how JALT chapters could meet the needs of senior high
school English teachers faced with the new challenges.
Biodata: Takashi Miura is currently an advisor to senior high
school English education projects in two prefectures. He is
professor emeritus at Shizuoka University, where he taught after
earlier teaching in the school system. His newly published
book is, 'Eigo Jugyo Eno Ningen Keiseiteki Approach' (A Humanity
Nurturing Approach to English Classes), published by Kenkyusha.
After the break: The past, present and
future of JALT Toyohashi Chapter.
We had a chance to reflect on the chapter and to consider future
developments.
Early evening:
We had our annual 'bonenkai' (end of year party)
