The emblem, designed by Professor Yutaka Takehara, features kakitsubata (rabbit-eared iris), which grow in profusion over wide areas in this region from ancient times. Ise Monogatari, a tenth century novel, includes a famous poem referring to kakitsubata in Yatsuhashi, Mikawa (the old name of this region). The area provides an ideal environment for students to love nature, to learn and to research. The loop around the flower symbolizes the unity and harmony of nature-loving students, faculty and staff of this university. The flower pattern can be used as the emblem by itself. The English name of the university in the loop shows unity between the sign and the import. |
