Visitor on January 26 - James Venema
We had a visitor on January 26. His name is
James Venema, he is a Canadian. He grew up in a small town, he
moved 3 times because of his father's work. He lived in a city
called Abbotsford which is near the US border. There are many
fruit and berry farms in Abbotsford. When he was in grade 6, he
started a part time job. On 2 months vacation, he was picking
berries 6 days a week! When he was in junior high school, he participated
in camping, or many other outdoor activities.
He was a student at University of Edmonton, where there were 30,000
students. He majored in clinical psychology. He was living alone.
It was 1200 kms away from his parents. His parents gave him no
money, so he used school loans. During vacations, he worked at
a day-care center, a pig farm which was not enjoyable, a cow farm
which was the hardest work for him and tree planting.
Canada has big scale farms, for instance, we can see mountains
100km away. Compared with Canada, Japan is very crowded. He likes
to live in many different countries, and is especially interested
in Asian countries. He came to Japan because of his opportunity
to work for a company he saw advertised. He has 3 children, their
birthdays run 3 days in a line! It's amazing!!
He has a positive feeling about using computers, because he lives
away from his family. He often uses E-mail, so he thinks it is
convenient. He uses internet to watch hockey games. He said he
couldn't live without computers.
