Pictures of the month - London
The Tower of London
While I was back in England recently, I visited the Tower of London for the first time for many years. It is still Britain's top tourist attraction with a history dating back more than 900 years. Many famous events in British history have taken place there, including the murder of 'The Princes in the Tower', Princes Edward and Richard, sons of Edward IV, in the fifteenth century.
This picture shows the Scaffold Site where seven famous prisoners were executed, including two of Henry VIII's six wives, Anne Boleyn (in 1536) and Catherine Howard (in 1542).
This picture shows the arch in the wall where the Tower's ravens are kept. Legend says that if these birds (one is on the grass) ever leave the tower, it will fall together with the royal family. In the background, on the south bank of the River Thames, you can see the new GLA building, the headquarters of London's government.
