CONTRASTS:

Public transport in Japan is both advancing and receding. The top picture shows the 'Peachliner' guided system in Komaki, north of Nagoya. Although it only opened at the beginning of the 1990's, it closed at the end of September 2006. In contrast, the Toyama Portram replaced trains with low floor light rail cars from April 2006. With local support, it seems popular and other cities are looking to develop similar systems.
