March 2021 Picture of the
        Month

The waters of Hamanako Lake Hamana
in Shizuoka Prefecture on an overcast day in March 2021.
Although described as a lake, it is actually linked to the Pacific
      Ocean, something which happened
through topographical changes which happened with an earthquake in
      1498. That brought
in salty and brackish water to what is still described as Japan's
tenth largest lake, with an area of
65 square kilometres. There are plenty of boats around, boat
      maintenance facilities, leisure facilities
      and some waterside homes.

It can be reached by bus and trains from the university in under
      two hours.
