TRAVEL
As the famous saying goes, 'Travel broadens the
mind'.
When I get the chance, I like to see new places. Most recently, it was three
nights in
Northern Ireland. Although part of the United Kingdom, where I
come from, I had never
been there before.First, I went to
Londonderry, also known as Derry, Northern Ireland's
second city. I visited the Tower Museum, which details the
city's history which reflects the divisions
of history, particularly political and religious. They became
particularly well-known,
during 'The Troubles', which increased in intensity from the
late 1960's.
Divisions are reflected in the two sides of the
city, the Protestant dominated 'Waterside' and the
Catholic dominated 'Bogside' shown below:

However, in recent years, there have been
greater moves towards reconciliation. One physical
symbol is the Peace Bridge linking the Waterside to the centre
of the city, with finance contributed
by the European Union:

Then I moved on to Belfast.
