On the way from Edinburgh to Glasgow is Falkirk, location for an engineering innovation:

It is the Falkirk Wheel, a revolving boat lift which links two canals (Forth and Clyde and Union)
and which opened in 2002. As seen below, it is environmentally friendly:


Southwards from Edinburgh is the reopened Borders Railway, to Tweedbank.
It runs along part of the old Waverley Line to Carlisle and was restored to open
in September 2015:
