Alan
Maley

Alan
has had a long career in the area of English as a foreign language
and has worked in many countries.
He is now a Visting Professor at Leeds Metropolitan University, England.
Alan came
on 29th November and spoke to participants including
faculty members, fourth-year undergraduates, graduate students,
and international students.
Here
for the JALT International Conference earlier in the month,
he came to AUE to talk about 'Global English'. Issues he talked
about included:
The commodification of English,
Does everybody need to study it and the related situation of
'haves' and 'have-nots'
and
The usefulness of teaching English to young learners.
